RSS Feeds

An RSS "feed" is computer file, in a specific format, that holds information such as news articles. A program called a "reader" accepts a link to the file and displays the news information. The reader will repeatedly check the file for updates. Thus, RSS is a simple and effect means to publish news-like information.

But RSS is not limited to news. We use RSS to publish a daily article from the Baltimore Catechism, among other things.

Open Technologies

Accessibility

Much internet content today is only accessible if one creates an account and downloads a specially-made app. There are sound technical reasons for the popularity of this approach, but it limits accessibility.

Because we want the Gospel to be accessible, we publish Catholic teaching and culture in formats that are widely supported: web, RSS, and email, to name a few.

Computability

Most content on this website is stored in XML, iCal, or some other open data format. We intend for this to be transparent to users, but it allows tech-savvy users, possibly for the first time, to easily access and process Church content via computer program.
